The world’s longest cave system has added 8 miles (13 kilometers) to its size, officers stated.

Mammoth Cave National Park stated in a press release Saturday that the additional mileage was mapped and documented by the Kew Research Foundation. This brings the entire size of the cave system in south-central Kentucky to 420 miles (676 kilometers), officers stated.

The announcement highlighted the park’s recognition of National Service Day and its long-standing partnership with the non-profit basis. Foundation volunteers have labored with the park for many years to map and doc Mammoth Cave.

“The Cave Research Foundation is basically the reason why Mammoth Cave is recognized as the longest cave in the world,” stated Rick Tommy, the park’s cave useful resource administration specialist.
