Athavale in Parliament: 73.31 p.c of Scheduled Caste handbook scavengers

Responding to a query by RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Kumar Jha, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale revealed that out of 58,098 handbook scavengers within the nation, 42,594 belong to the Scheduled Castes.

The ministry has mentioned that a number of surveys have been performed on handbook scavengers within the nation as per the provisions of the MS Act, 2013. These surveys have confirmed that a lot of handbook scavengers belong to the Scheduled Castes, whereas 431 are handbook scavengers. There are OBC class, 421 belong to Scheduled Tribe and 351 handbook scavengers belong to “Others” class.

The ministry has additional acknowledged that the federal government is implementing a Central Sector Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers (SRMS), which gives a one-time money help of Rs 40,000; Skill coaching for scavengers and their dependents with a stipend of Rs.3,000 per 30 days for the interval of their coaching; Capital subsidy of Rs 5 lakh for debtors for self-employment initiatives; and medical insurance underneath Ayushman Bharat for handbook scavengers and their households.

The ministry has disclosed full protection of the one-time money fee, which it says has been prolonged to all handbook scavengers within the nation.

The ministry mentioned that 18,199 handbook scavengers have been given talent coaching and 1,562 beneficiaries have been given capital subsidy.

Scavenging was banned in 2013, with the availability that from that date no individual could be employed as a handbook scavenger.
