Avanti West Coast staff to go on strike on Christmas

Avanti West Coast practice managers have voted for a three-day strike over the Christmas interval.

The RMT union stated a walkout is scheduled for December 22, 23 and 29 on the London to Scotland service after rejecting the practice firm's proposals for “rest day working arrangements”.

Train managers normally work 4 days per week however could also be requested to work different days attributable to employees shortages however the RMT stated the present association is “unacceptable”.

Avanti West Coast has been contacted for remark.

The strike announcement comes simply weeks after the RMT accepted a 5% backdated pay rise from the Rail Delivery Group, the physique representing practice firms.

Mick Lynch, common secretary of the RMT, stated: “Train managers are being treated unfairly compared to senior managers, who receive significant pay to cover these roles.

“Our members have a lot to say, and this strike action reflects their determination to win a fair deal.”
