Nick Antoniazi, who runs a cafe at the center of the city, said: “I’ve been engaged on excessive avenue for a few years and noticed loads of issues, however not sufficient for the police.

“There is no option for them to get out of their cars, walk on the streets and listen to the community – it is really good to hear that they must be doing so.”

Supt Hughes defended police information in coping with crime within the metropolis.
