Bank of England 'very nervous' on menace to US Fed Independence

The Governor of the Bank of England has warned that the menace to the independence of the US Federal Reserve is “very serious” and President Donald Trump continues to focus on the US central financial institution.

Andrew Bailey informed the Treasury Select Committee: “This is a very serious situation, I am very worried.”

Trump has repeatedly attacked Fed Chair Jerome Powell for not reducing rates of interest and tried to set fireplace to considered one of his governor Lisa Cook who’s now sueing the US President.

Mr. Bailey is the most recent central banker to extend the alarm after Christine Lagard, president of the European Central Bank (ECB), acknowledged that the lack of freedom was a “very serious threat” to the worldwide financial system.

Ms. Legarde warned that if Fed was compelled to answer the President's orders, she would have one. “Very worrying” impacts “ On economic stability worldwide.

“Federal Reserve … has made a really robust fame for independence and its choices,” Mr. Bailey told the MPs.

Trump has made it clear that since returning to the White House in January, he would like to see a large deduction in official interest rates which remain between 4.25% to 4.5% from last December.

In contrast, ECB and Bank of England have cut the cost of borrowing several times since last year,

Trump has repeatedly attacked Mr. Powell not to do so – calling him “too late” and claims that she is “low-cost” in her job.
