China agrees to Xinjiang go to by UN rights chief in early 2022, says report

China has agreed to let the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights go to Xinjiang within the first half of 2022 after the Beijing Winter Olympics, based on a report after within the South China Morning Post which cited unnamed sources.

Rights teams have accused China of perpetrating widescale abuses towards Uyghurs and different minority teams in its western area of Xinjiang, together with mass detention, torture and compelled labour. The United States has accused China of genocide.

Beijing denies all Muslims of abuse of Uyghurs and different Turkic Muslims and has described its insurance policies as essential to fight spiritual extremism.

UN human rights commissioner Michelle Bachelet has been pursuing negotiations with China on a go to since September 2018.China’s international ministry, China’s mission to the United Nations in New York, and the United Nations didn’t instantly reply to requests for remark.

The South China Morning Post report on Thursday cited sources saying that the approval for a go to after the conclusion of the Beijing Winter Games, which run Feb 4-20, was granted on the situation the journey needs to be “friendly” and never framed as an investigation. As in 2008, the Olympics have once more forged a highlight on China’s human rights report, which critics say has worsened since then, main Washington to name Beijing’s therapy of Uyghur Muslims genocide and prompting a diplomatic boycott from the United States and different international locations.

“No one, especially the world’s leading human rights diplomat, should be fooled by the Chinese government’s efforts to distract attention away from its crimes against humanity targeting Uyghurs and other Turkic communities,” Sophie Richardson, China Director at Human Rights Watch, informed Reuters in an emailed assertion on Friday.
