Darren Horsnell says he was devastated when his late fiancee's ring was stolen from his house

A person whose late fiancée's engagement ring was stolen has spoken of his “relief” after it was posted again to him together with an apology word.

Falklands War veteran Darren Horsnell appealed on social media for thieves to return the jewelery after it was burgled at his house in Haslingden, Lancashire.

The ring was later posted on the door of the charity the place he works, Veterans in Communities.

Enclosed within the envelope was a word that learn, “Sorry Darren”.

Mr Horsnell, 62, who serves within the Royal Artillery, was on a fishing journey to boost cash for veterans' charities when the ring was taken.

He stated: “When it was stolen I used to be devastated as a result of it was virtually 4 years to the day since my fiancée Tracey died.

“I was literally physically sick when I saw he was gone, I couldn't believe it.”

The thieves took the ring, a attraction bracelet, some money, a pill laptop and a helpful chess set on September 23.

Thousands of people shared online appeals for the return of the ring

He urged the thieves to “hold the remainder of the stuff, carry the ring again and so far as I'm involved, that'll be the top of it”.

Mr Horsnell said bbc radio lancashire: “My reaction was amazing. It was shared thousands of times by people who know me and people who don't know me.

“But it was returned in a white envelope posted through the letterbox of the charity I work for.

“The word regarded as if a toddler had written it along with his or her personal left hand. Not for a minute did I consider that it was the thief who returned it as a result of in the event that they had been so sick they might have stolen it from the place it So I don't suppose he did it with a conscience.

“Unless they're really scared of showing the ring to someone and getting caught.”

He added, “Words cannot express how relieved I am to have it back.”
