England batsman Ollie Pope was given a doubtful begin to the primary Test in opposition to India on Saturday after struggling a thigh harm throughout his stint on the Vitality Blast for Surrey.

The 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman suffered a thigh muscle harm on 2 July throughout Surrey’s match in opposition to Kent within the home T20 event.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stated in a press release: “Pope has been ruled out until England’s LV=insurance Test series against India following a left thigh muscle injury.”

“The ECB and Surrey fitness teams will work together to rehabilitate Pope so that he can be available for the first Test against India.”

The first Test will start on August 4 at Trent Bridge.

Pope has scored 882 runs in 19 Test matches in opposition to South Africa in January, 2020 with the best rating of 135 not out.

However, he has not been in a position to attain the 35-run mark in his final 8 Test matches.

If he doesn’t recuperate from the harm in time, then David Malan, who has impressed with the bat in England’s restricted overs cricket, could get an opportunity.
