Five youngsters have been arrested on suspicion of homicide after an 80-year-old man died following an assault in a park.
Leicestershire Police stated the person died in hospital after being attacked whereas strolling his canine in Franklin Park, in Brownstone Town, Leicester, on Sunday night.
A 14-year-old boy and woman, and one other 12-year-old boy and two women are in custody, police stated.
Officers have appealed for witnesses to return ahead.
Police stated the person was close to the Bramble Way entrance to the park at about 18:30 (IST) when he was critically attacked by a gaggle of youths, who left the scene earlier than emergency companies arrived.
Police stated that after interrogation, 5 youngsters have been taken into custody.
It stated that resulting from prior police contact with the sufferer, the police power would make a voluntary referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Detectives are chatting with residents within the space and have appealed for anybody who was within the park on Sunday night to return ahead.
“Sadly, following the death of the victim last night, this has now become a murder investigation,” Detective Inspector Emma Matts stated.
“Officers are working rapidly to ascertain the main points of the assault and now we have made various arrests as we attempt to perceive what occurred.
“Scene protection arrangements will remain in place at the park whilst our investigation progresses. Local officers are also patrolling the area and are happy to speak to anyone from the local community who has any concerns.”
Officers have stated they’re significantly eager to talk to individuals who noticed the sufferer earlier than the assault or noticed a gaggle of younger folks leaving the world.
