Days after the controversy erupted over his “Mathura is ready” tweet, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Friday mentioned that earlier than the BJP got here to energy within the state in 2017, “lungi chhap” goons roamed freely within the state, and used to intimidate retailers carrying “jaalidar topi” and encroach on their land.

Addressing a gathering of merchants in Prayagraj, Maurya mentioned in Hindi, “Before the 2017 elections, how many lungi chhap goons used to roam around.. who were wearing jalidar caps with guns in their hands… Who used to threaten the traders?”

“Ever since the BJP government was formed, can you even see such goons?” he mentioned.

Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha expressed displeasure over Maurya’s tweet on the Mathura temple and mentioned that the BJP is simply involved about securing votes within the upcoming elections.

The Hindu Mahasabha had earlier proposed putting in an idol of Krishna inside a mosque in Mathura on 6 December – the anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid. The group claims that the “real birthplace” of the deity is contained in the mosque.

However, after the district administration imposed prohibitory orders below Section 144 of CrPC on November 28 and objected to the programme, the group withdrew its plan.
