Omicron scare: Kerala physician’s samples despatched for Covid genome sequencing

Kerala has despatched samples of a 46-year-old physician who had come from the UK on November 21 for genome sequencing to detect the omicron variant of COVID-19.

The physician from Kozhikode had examined COVID-positive on November 28 and had no signs. “After reaching Kozhikode, he traveled to different districts and hence, we are preparing a list of his contacts. A route map of the doctor, who is currently under observation, will be published,” mentioned Kozhikode district medical officer Dr V Umar Farooq.

He mentioned samples of the physician’s mom and her assist have been collected, and if examined constructive, these would even be despatched for genome sequencing.

Meanwhile, the state well being division on Friday determined to enhance the screening services for passengers arriving from overseas at 4 worldwide airports within the state. Five to 10 kiosks will likely be arrange at airports. Travelers from high-risk international locations, if examined constructive, will likely be taken on to isolation wards in hospitals.
