A driver who crushed and killed a father-of-two in a “senseless act of hot-headed violence” has been jailed for all times.
Hassan Jhangur, 25, killed Chris Marriott, 46, when he intentionally drove his automotive right into a crowd of individuals throughout a battle at his sister's wedding ceremony reception in Burngreave, Sheffield, in December 2023.
“Good Samaritan” Mr Marriott, who had stopped to assist Jhangur's sister when she fell in the course of the battle, died on the scene, whereas 4 others have been significantly injured.
In a press release, Mr Marriott's spouse of 16 years, Bryony, described her husband as “true, kind and loving” and stated his demise would have an effect on her and their two sons “for the rest of our lives”.
Sentencing him at Sheffield Crown Court to a minimal of 26 years in jail, Mr Justice Morris stated the assault was “a deliberate and senseless act of wanton violence carried out without thought”, which resulted within the demise of Mr Marriott and had life-changing penalties for a lot of others.
Zangur, of Whiteways Road, Sheffield, was discovered responsible by majority verdict following a trial in July on three counts of homicide and inflicting grievous bodily hurt with intent and one rely of wounding with intent referring to these.
He was acquitted of tried homicide, however convicted of a second rely of wounding with intent, after the jury heard that he attacked his new brother-in-law Hassan Khan with a knife after the accident, repeatedly stabbing him within the head and chest.
