1999 Senari Massacre: Supreme Court agrees to listen to plea in opposition to acquittal

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to look at the Bihar authorities’s enchantment in opposition to the Patna High Court’s acquittal of 14 folks within the 1999 Senari bloodbath – wherein 34 folks have been allegedly killed by Maoist outfits.

A bench of Justice S Abdul Nazeer and Justice Krishna Murari issued notices to the acquitted folks on May 21.

The State, in its enchantment filed by Abhinav Mukherjee, argued that the High Court didn’t take into account the testimony of the witnesses whereas reversing their conviction by the trial court docket and the judgment was opposite to the proof on document.

The plea stated the prosecution’s case is supported by 23 witnesses “of whom 13 are eyewitnesses who lost their close family in the massacre” and three witnesses who have been injured within the incident. “It is important to note that none of the accused disputed the date, time, place and manner of incident, but were still acquitted of misinterpretation of law and adjudication of evidence on record,” the state stated.

The trial court docket had sentenced 11 convicts to demise and three to life imprisonment.
