The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday mentioned that the Indian Embassy in Doha is making each effort for the early launch and repatriation of eight former naval officers from Qatar. After just a few days it emerged that eight officers had been detained there.
When requested about reviews concerning the detention of former naval officers at a media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi mentioned, “We are aware of the detention of eight Indian nationals, who we understand are from a private company in Qatar. were working for.”
He mentioned that the Indian Embassy in Qatar is in contact with the Qatari authorities and the mission officers have obtained consular entry to the detained Indian nationals and ascertained their properly being.
“The detained people have also spoken to their family members on a few occasions. We have requested another round of consular access and we are following up with the Qatari authorities on this,” he mentioned.
“Our embassy and ministry are in contact with the households. There our Embassy is making each effort for the speedy launch and repatriation of the detained Indian nationals.
Eight former Indian Navy officers working in Qatar are in custody in that nation together with an organization offering coaching and different companies to the Qatari Emiri Navy.
While the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed their detention on Thursday, there was no info on the costs in opposition to these former Navy officers.

His profile on the corporate’s web site says that when he served within the Indian Navy, he commanded a minesweeper and a big amphibious warship.
