A day after avalanche, our bodies of 4 Navy personnel discovered, search continues for two

The our bodies of 4 of the 5 Navy personnel, who have been hit by an avalanche on Friday throughout an operation on Trishul mountain in Uttarakhand, have been discovered on Saturday. The Navy stated all efforts are on “to locate a fifth naval climber and a Sherpa”.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the tragic death of four naval personnel who were part of Indian Navy’s mountaineering expedition to Mount Trishul. The nation has not only lost precious young lives but courageous soldiers in this tragedy.”

My condolences to the bereaved households of Lt Cdr Rajnikant Yadav, Lt Cdr Yogesh Tiwari, Lt Cdr Anant Kukreti and Hari Om MCPO II. My condolences are with their households on this hour of tragedy. Praying for the early detection of the remainder of the group members.”

Five Navy personnel had gone lacking as a group of 10 acquired trapped in an avalanche close to the summit on Friday. While 5 members of the group have been secure, the opposite 5 went lacking and a search and rescue operation was launched on Friday by helicopters of the Air Force and the Aviation Wing of the Army and the State Disaster Management Force.

A Navy spokesman stated the search operation was halted on Friday night however resumed on Saturday. The our bodies of Lieutenant Commanders Rajinikanth Yadav, Yogesh Tiwari and Anand Kukreti and JCO Hariom have been discovered on Saturday. Yadav and Kukreti reside in Mumbai.

The spokesman declined to offer particulars in regards to the lacking.

These personnel have been a part of a 20-member contingent of the Western Naval Command and set out for the operation from Mumbai on 3 September from INS Trishul. It was a part of the ‘Golden Victory Year’ celebrations to commemorate 50 years of victory within the 1971 battle. The group began its trek to the bottom camp on September 14.
