Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday expressed displeasure over Speaker Biman Banerjee’s criticism to his Lok Sabha counterpart in opposition to him (Dhankhar) for allegedly “interfering” within the affairs of the state.

Terming Biman Banerjee’s allegations as “unfortunate”, Dhankhar, in a letter to her, mentioned, “More pained to be annoyed at your (widely reported in the public domain) stand at the recent Conference of Speakers with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, This shows that as Governor I am trying to interfere in the working of WB Vidhan Sabha…..Such a stand, especially in the forum concerned, is not in line with your position. Just imagine that even once you have accompanied me. Haven’t thought of deliberating on this issue. Such optics harm the institution which we need to nurture and of which I am at the top as per Article 168 of the Constitution,” he mentioned.

On June 22, Speaker Biman Banerjee had complained in opposition to Dhankhar to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla about his alleged “excessive interference in the affairs of the state”.

Speaker Biman Banerjee had additionally alleged that the governor was sitting on essential payments and never releasing them on time.

The Governor wrote, “No Bill, except one, is under consideration of me, and that too there is delay in response from the concerned.”
