Anthony Fauci to step down as chief medical adviser to Biden, NIAID chief

Dr. Anthony Fauci mentioned on Monday that he would step down in December from his positions as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and chief medical adviser to US President Joe Biden.

Fauci, 81, may even step down as head of the NIAID Laboratory of Immunoregulation.

“While I’m moving on from my current positions, I’m not retiring,” Fauci mentioned. “After more than 50 years of government service, I plan to pursue the next phase of my career while I still have so much energy and passion for my field.”

The infectious illness specialist has been the director of the NIAID since 1984, and in 2020 grew to become the face of the US authorities’s efforts to include the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last month, Fauci advised Reuters he deliberate to retire by the tip of President Joe Biden’s first time period, nevertheless it may come a lot sooner than that.
