Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday mentioned that the Center will make it necessary for automobile producers to supply at the very least six airbags in motor automobiles that may carry 8 passengers to reinforce the security of the riders. In a sequence of tweets, the Road Transport and Highways Minister mentioned that his ministry has made it necessary for the fitment of driver airbags with impact from July 1, 2019, and entrance co-passenger airbags with impact from January 1, 2022.

Gadkari mentioned, “In order to enhance the safety of people in motor vehicles up to 8 passengers, I have now approved the draft GSR notification to make at least 6 airbags mandatory.”
