Babri demolition: Supreme Court calls off contempt proceedings

The Supreme Court on Tuesday closed the contempt proceedings towards officers of the Uttar Pradesh administration and a few Sangh Parivar leaders arising out of the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992, saying nothing was left within the matter.

A 3-judge bench headed by Justice SK Kaul closed the pending circumstances since 1992.

Ayodhya resident petitioner Mohammad Aslam Bhure had filed his first contempt petition and two contempt petitions earlier than the demolition after the demolition of the disputed construction on 6 December 1992.

Advocate MM Kashyap, showing for the petitioner, advised the bench that Bhure had handed away in 2010 and lots of the respondents had been no extra. The court docket didn’t accede to his request to exchange the petitioner with the amicus curiae.

The bench stated that it’s unlucky that the matter was not taken up earlier.

“We are trying to take up the old cases. Some can survive, and some cannot survive…. Now, you have the full judgment given by a larger bench,” it stated.

The court docket famous within the order that the petitioner had handed away and whereas the central subject was determined by a Constitution Bench in 2019, the authorized subject is “not alive for consideration”.
