Congress’s Kerala working president Kodikkunil Suresh on Saturday courted controversy by saying that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan ought to have married his daughter to a Scheduled Caste man if he was a very progressive chief.

Suresh, an MP and outstanding Dalit chief, was talking on a dharna towards the alleged misappropriation of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Welfare Fund belonging to CPI(M) leaders.

Suresh stated Vijayan had earned a repute for being progressive by permitting ladies entry into the Sabarimala temple. “If Vijayan had been a real Renaissance chief, he would have married his daughter to a Scheduled Caste man. The CPI(M) has many good Scheduled Caste youths.

The Congress chief accused Vijayan of neglecting the Dalit neighborhood. “The neglect was evident in the formation and appointments of the ministry. There was a celebration of making a Dalit a minister of Devaswam (temple affairs). At the same time, Vijayan had appointed a keeper of his conscience to rein in that Dalit minister,” he stated, referring to the appointment of Ok Radhakrishnan because the minister for temple affairs. Later, former MP A Sampath was made his private secretary.

Even after his feedback drew criticism from political leaders, Suresh advised him that he had made an informal reference to a subject that was debated by society at giant.

AA Rahim, state secretary of the ruling CPI(M) youth wing DYFI, stated the Congress chief’s remarks have been anti-women and towards the outlook of recent society. “His statements are regressive. Any grownup has the liberty to decide on his life associate. This exhibits that the Congress is being led by individuals who haven’t but adopted the attitude of recent society.
