CWI chief guarantees ‘thorough postmortem’ on Windies’ T20 World Cup exit

Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Ricky Skerritt reprimanded the batsmen for his or her “untimely shot selection” and promised a “thorough postmortem” of the crew’s humiliating early exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Two-time champions West Indies crashed out of the T20 World Cup after shedding to Ireland by 9 wickets in a first-round group match on Friday.

“I am deeply disappointed by the results of our team’s performance in Australia and I greatly appreciate the spirit of the disappointment,” Skerritt stated in an announcement posted on the CWI web site.

“Our batsmen’s ongoing inability to resist slow bowling remains a clear weakness in Australia, and precocious shot selection is deeply embedded in our senior team’s T20 batting culture.”

The Caribbean crew, which received the title in 2012 and 2016, have been eradicated from the group stage with only one win in three matches.

Since their title run in 2016, West Indies have misplaced six out of the eight matches they’ve performed within the T20 World Cup.

“I would like to assure the stakeholders that a thorough postmortem will be conducted on all aspects of our World Cup preparation and performance and the solution is in keeping with CWI’s strategy to improve the quality and consistency of cricket on all fronts and across all will be searched. format,” Skerritt stated.

“West Indies cricket is bigger than a single individual or event and it needs the input and support of all stakeholders.”
