Delhi double homicide: UPI cost used to trace accused

A day after a 52-year-old lady and her son had been murdered inside their home in Palam in southwest Delhi, her nephew was arrested in reference to the crime.

Police mentioned accused Abhishek Verma allegedly killed him as his aunt Babita had reprimanded him for not repaying the Rs 50,000 he had borrowed from him.

Verma (34) was traced by way of a UPI cost made to an e-rickshaw driver, who drove him from the world after the crime.

DCP (South West) Pintik Pratap Singh mentioned Babita and her son Gaurav (27) had been overwhelmed to dying with a dumbbell.

“After the murder, Kumar took the digital video recorder (DVR) attached to the CCTV camera and fled. Babita is a housewife, her son used to work in Hyderabad but was unemployed for a year. Babita’s husband Krishna Swaroop (55) was not at home at the time of the murder. He works as an accountant in the Indian Air Force in Palam,” he mentioned.

The household lived in a three-storey bungalow and the military constable lived on the bottom ground.

During the investigation, a staff led by Inspector Yogesh and SHO Paras Nath Verma scanned the CCTV footage of the locality. “They found that the accused had gone in an e-rickshaw which had ‘Sarathi’ written on it. The team found the driver at around 12 noon on Wednesday; He said that he dropped the passenger near Dashrath Puri metro station. The driver said that he asked the passenger about the blood on his face but he refused to answer. The passenger gave the torn note to the driver, which he refused. So he paid Rs 30 through UPI. When the team opened the application on the driver’s phone, they found that the person was Verma,” mentioned a senior police officer.

Police discovered that Verma was the nephew of the lady and runs a cosmetics store in Burari.

“He was present to clear the doubts during the post-mortem and also visited the police station. He was taken into custody from outside the morgue. He told the police that his aunt repeatedly asked him to repay Rs 50,000, which he had taken from her in 2019 for his sister’s wedding,” mentioned an officer.

The DCP mentioned that Verma had gone to fulfill the victims on Sunday and an altercation broke out between them over cash.

“Then he allegedly deliberate to kill them. On Tuesday, he reached Dashrath Puri metro station in a two-wheeler. From there he took an e-rickshaw to the victims’ home. Babita stored asking concerning the cash, which enraged the accused and he allegedly killed her. In view of the incident, he additionally killed his cousin. DCP Singh mentioned that he left the cabinet open to make it seem like a loot bid.
