British star Eddie Redmayne says taking part in a trans character within the 2015 movie The Danish Girl was a mistake. Redmayne, who performs transgender artist Lily Elbe within the movie, mentioned she wouldn’t do it if she was given the job now. The function earned him a Best Actor nomination.
There was some controversy over the casting of Redmayne within the movie as critics believed that the function ought to have been portrayed by a trans actress.
And The Theory of Everything star agrees.
“No, I will not take it now. I made that movie with the very best of intentions, however I believe it was a mistake.
“There’s a lot of buzz about casting disappointments because a lot of people don’t have a chair at the table. There has to be a level, otherwise we are going to continue with these debates,” the actor instructed the Sunday Times on whether or not he would take up the function once more if he was supplied it now.
The Oscar-winning actor is presently starring in a brand new manufacturing of Cabaret on the Playhouse Theater in London.
