The Defense Ministry on Saturday mentioned a collection of profitable assessments of the Extended Range Pinaka Rocket System (Pinaka-ER) had been carried out within the final three days.

The rocket methods that had been examined on the Pokhran Field Firing Range had been manufactured by a personal trade following the switch of expertise by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

“DRDO along with the Army conducted a series of performance evaluation trials of these industry-produced rockets at field firing ranges during the last three days,” the Defense Ministry mentioned.

“In these trials, the advanced range Pinaka rockets with different warhead capabilities were tested at different ranges. All testing objectives were met satisfactorily,” it mentioned in an announcement.

The Pinaka Mk-I rocket system has a spread of about 40 km, whereas the Pinaka II variant can hit targets from a spread of 60 km. The extent of the Pinaka-ER (Mk-I variant) was not instantly identified.

The Field Denial Munition (ADM) variant for Pinaka, produced beneath Technology Transfer, was additionally efficiently take a look at fired on the Pokhran Field Firing Range, the ministry mentioned.

It mentioned 24 rockets had been fired for numerous ranges and warhead capabilities.

“With this, the initial phase of technology absorption of Pinaka-ER by the industry partner has been successfully completed, making the industry partner ready for series production of the rocket system,” the ministry mentioned.

The rocket system has been collectively designed by two Pune-based DRDO laboratories – the Ordnance Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL).

The ministry mentioned that DRDO has transferred its expertise to the trade after establishing the demonstration functionality of Pinaka-ER.

“The industry partner has partnered with DRDO to manufacture the advanced Pinaka Mk-1 rocket during production and quality assurance,” it mentioned.

“In continuation of the transfer of technology absorption, the rockets developed by the industry have undergone a process of performance evaluation and quality certification,” the ministry mentioned.

It mentioned an indigenously developed “proximity fuse” for the Pinaka rocket has additionally been examined.

“Following the design validation tests, the dynamic performance evaluation of these fuses has been evaluated along with flight test. Continuity has been established in the performance of the fuses in successive flight tests,” the ministry mentioned.
