FIFA president Gianni Infantino condoles Surajit Sengupta’s demise

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has condoled the demise of footballer Surajit Sengupta who handed away final week, an AIFF media launch said.

“FIFA President Mr. Gianni Infantino has condoled the demise of Surajit Sengupta, who handed away in Kolkata final week (February 17, 2022),” the discharge mentioned.

In a letter to AIFF president Praful Patel, who can be a FIFA Council Member, Mr. Infantino wrote, “I want to specific my sincerest and heartfelt condolences on the current passing of former worldwide participant, Surajit Sengupta. Words appear insufficient to precise the unhappiness we really feel for this loss.”

Sengupta, who made his worldwide debut on July 24, 1974 in opposition to Thailand within the Merdeka Cup in Kuala Lumpur went on to signify India in 14 worldwide matches, and scored one purpose within the course of – in opposition to Kuwait within the 1978 Asian Games. Over the years, he represented the Blue Tigers within the Asian Games in 1974, and 1978, the Merdeka Cup in 1974, the President’s Cup in 1977 in Seoul, and International Friendlies in opposition to UAE, and Bahrain (1979).

“An Indian football legend, recognized as one of the greatest players of his generation, inspiration for many, his legacy and achievements, and in particular his leadership, his personality and his human qualities will not be forgotten, and he will be truly missed, ” the letter additional said.

“On behalf of the worldwide soccer neighborhood, I want to prolong our deepest sympathy to the All India Football Federation, and to Surajit’s household, buddies and family members. Our ideas are with all of you.”
