Former Australia Test captain Tim Paine retires

Former Australia Test cricket captain Tim Paine introduced his retirement on Friday following the conclusion of Tasmania’s Sheffield Shield first-class match in opposition to Queensland.

Wicketkeeper Paine captained Australia in 23 Tests between the beginning of 2018 and 2021, taking part in 35 Tests in complete. He turned Australia’s forty sixth Test captain after Steve Smith was stripped of the captaincy following the ball-tampering scandal on Australia’s 2018 tour of South Africa.

Paine stepped down from the captaincy in late 2021 after it was revealed he had despatched specific textual content messages to a former Cricket Tasmania worker.

Paine, who made his debut in opposition to Pakistan at Lord’s in 2010, averaged 32.63 in Tests with a prime rating of 92 and took 157 victims behind the stumps. He additionally performed 35 One Day Internationals for Australia.

Born in Hobart, Paine represented Tasmania for 18 years after making his debut in 2005, taking part in 153 first-class matches.

Tasmania captain Jordan Silk mentioned, “He’s been an extraordinary player, it’s an incredible effort for his longevity.”

“I’m sure many people will say that Australia has never had a good keeper like Tim Paine.”
