Google Android choice encouraging ‘win’ for EU, says Vestager

EU competitors chief Margrethe Vestager stated this week a European courtroom upheld Alphabet Inc’s document EU antitrust lawsuit towards Google over its Android cell working system, representing a transparent “win” for regulators .

“It’s a win,” Vestager stated in an interview with Bloomberg TV on Thursday. “A large majority of the cases are fully upheld, which means the court has confirmed our view. Because of that, we also feel encouraged to implement it when it comes to Big Tech.”

European Union judges on Wednesday upheld many of the European Commission’s arguments towards Google over Android, which regulators stated strengthened the corporate’s dominance of the search engine. They reduce Google’s record-setting penalty barely from 4.3 billion euros ($4.3 billion) to 4.1 billion euros ($4.1 billion).

Vestager identified that the fee has Apple Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., along with Google. There is an ongoing competitors associated inquiry.

Wednesday’s choice may be appealed to the bloc’s high courtroom, the Court of Justice of the European Union.
