Govt summons Infosys CEO to clarify flaws in IT e-filing portal

Infosys MD and CEO Salil Parekh has been summoned by the Finance Ministry over the discrepancies within the new earnings tax e-filing portal.

Parekh, showing on Monday (August 23), has been requested to clarify to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman why the glitches within the portal haven’t been resolved to date.

“Ministry of Finance has summoned Salil Parekh, MD & CEO @Infosys on 23/08/2021 to the Hon’ble FM to explain why there are no glitches in the portal even 2.5 months after the launch of the new e-filing portal. Solved. In fact, the portal is not available from 21/08/2021 itself,” the Income Tax Department stated in a tweet on Sunday.

Infosys was awarded a contract in 2019 to develop the following era earnings tax submitting system to cut back processing time from 63 days to in the future and expedite refunds.

New e-Filing Portal (http://www.incometax.gov.in) was launched on 7 June.

Soon after Sitharaman introduced its launch, her Twitter timeline was flooded with complaints, with a number of customers saying they have been having issues accessing it or going through different glitches.

The subsequent morning, Sitharaman tweeted in regards to the disturbances. “The much awaited e-filing portal 2.0 was launched last night at 20:45. I see in my TL complaints and shortcomings. Hope @Infosys and @NandanNilekani do not disappoint our taxpayers in the quality of service being provided. Ease of compliance should be our priority for the taxpayer,” she tweeted.

In response to his tweet, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani wrote, “The new e-filing portal will simplify the submitting course of and improve the top consumer expertise. @nsitharaman ji, we’ve already seen some technical issues on day one, and are working to resolve them. @Infosys Regrets these preliminary glitches and expects the system to stabilize throughout this week.
