Hansal Mehta laments Shahid not being out there on-line: ‘A private tragedy for me’

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has expressed his disappointment that his 2013 critically-acclaimed movie Shahid will not be out there for streaming on any OTT platform. Headlined by Rajkummar Rao, the biographical drama film was primarily based on the lifetime of lawyer and human rights activist, Shahid Azmi, who was assassinated in 2010 in Mumbai.

Shahid, which had its world premiere on the Toronto International Film Festival 2012, had opened to a constructive response from each the audiences in addition to the critics.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday night time, Mehta puzzled why Shahid will not be out there on any streaming platform regardless of its many achievements.

“Sad that #Shahid will not be on any OTT platform. I don’t know who owns the rights to the movie anymore and the place it is unique model even is. It is a private tragedy for me and for all those that toiled to make this movie in opposition to all odds. It is a tragedy for Shahid Azmi,” the 53-year-old filmmaker stated.
