Himanta Biswa Sarma re-elected as BAI chief, Sanjay Mishra basic secretary

Incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma was re-elected unopposed because the president of Badminton Association of India (BAI) for a second time period of 4 years — 2022 to 2026 — throughout its General Body Meeting on Friday.

Sarma, who can be the present Chief Minister of Assam, was elected as BAI chief for the primary time in 2017. He can be a Badminton Asia vice chairman and a member of the Badminton World Federation Executive Council. Former junior nationwide coach Sanjay Mishra would be the new basic secretary of BAI with incumbent Ajay Kumar Singhania turning into vice chairman within the new Executive Council.

Maharashtra Badminton Association president Arun Lakhani would be the new treasurer. Chief nationwide coach Pullela Gopichand can even make a foray into BAI administration after being elected as vice chairman together with Anbumani Ramadoss and 9 others.

“Badminton has been in the ascendancy in India for the last two decades and we are committed to continue that rise by providing better facilities to players and a robust governance system,” Sarma stated after being re-elected as BAI chief.

The newly elected Executive Council could have 11 vice presidents, eight joint secretaries and equal variety of committee members.
