‘I trusted the president’: within the personal phrases of the January 6 rioters

Some straight blame Trump for deceptive him and warn Trump supporters to not belief him. Others stay defiant and allege that they’re victims of a so-called cancellation tradition.

At least 170 rioters have confessed to their crime and greater than 70 have been sentenced. One case was dismissed and two others have been closed after being charged. No one has been discovered responsible.

A pattern of what he and his legal professionals stated in courtroom:

“Why did I enter the Capitol Building? I don’t have a good answer. I’ve seen it a thousand times and I’m still not sure why I didn’t know what was happening and took alternate action. There were a few factors that influenced me that day which cannot be discounted. We were told, ‘Everyone is going to the Capitol’ and ‘Be peaceful.'”

—Leonard Gruppo, of Clovis, New Mexico, in a letter to the decide sentencing him. Gruppo, a retired Special Forces soldier, was sentenced to a few months of home arrest.

“There were false claims made by media sources as well as by the President himself that the election system had become corrupt and that the integrity of the election should be questioned. … From what Mr. Croy read on the Internet and heard from the President himself. —Attorney Kira Anne West, in a courtroom submitting for Glenn Weiss Lee Croy from Colorado Springs, Colorado, who was sentenced to a few months of residence detention.

“I’ve attended several presidents. Trump events without incident. … My intention on that day was to support, not to cause trouble. I am deeply saddened and deeply sorry about the events that happened that day.” I will likely be linked eternally.”

—Donna Sue Bisse, of Bloomfield, Indiana, in a handwritten letter. He was jailed for 14 days.

“The solely plan I had was to go to the White House Ellipse to listen to President Trump’s speech. He stated throughout his speech that he would go to the Capitol after he spoke and he requested us to stroll there collectively after his speech. Walked again to the resort room to depart his speech early as a result of I used to be chilly. Once again in my room, I seemed on the information to see the place the individuals (sic) are within the Capitol constructing. … to take part within the rally After coming a good distance, I made a decision to placed on an additional layer of clothes and head to the Capital.

—Valerie Elaine Ehrke of Arbuckle, Calif., in a letter to the courtroom. Ehrke was given three years’ probation. Trump by no means went to the Capitol that day.

“While I feel bad about illegally entering the Capitol on January 6th, everything I did that day wasn’t all bad. Some of the things I did that day were good. I protest the election results.” Came to DC to take action. I needed my voice to be heard. My solely weapon was my voice and my cellphone.”

“It is my belief that America is currently in an ‘information war.’ , structures and ideas are fought.”

—Jenna Ryan of Frisco, Texas, in a letter to the courtroom. Ryan was jailed for 60 days after posting on-line that “I have blonde hair, fair skin, a great future and I’m not going to jail.” She informed NBC News in an interview revealed this week that she was being scapegoated “like the Jews in Germany.”

“My conservative creed is still the same. However, the system of governance, a constitutional republic, and the process of deciding who sits in the Oval Office behind the Resolute Desk goes beyond any one candidate or party. ——Devlin Thompson, of Seattle, in a handwritten letter. Thompson, who pleaded responsible to assaulting a police officer with a baton, was sentenced to almost 4 years in jail.
