IAF plane with Rajnath, Gadkari to make mock emergency touchdown on freeway in Rajasthan’s Barmer

An Indian Air Force (IAF) plane carrying Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari will make a mock emergency touchdown on a nationwide freeway in Rajasthan’s Barmer this week, sources mentioned on Monday.

Sources mentioned the 2 ministers will inaugurate a 3.5-km stretch on the nationwide freeway in Barmer this week because it is able to deal with emergency landings of IAF fighters and different plane.

He mentioned that that is India’s first nationwide freeway which will likely be used for emergency touchdown of Indian Air Force plane.

In October 2017, IAF fighter jets and transport plane had made a mock touchdown on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway to point out that such highways can be utilized by IAF plane for emergency landings.

The Lucknow-Agra Expressway comes underneath the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

According to sources, officers of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) labored in coordination with IAF officers to develop an airstrip on the nationwide freeway in Barmer.

He mentioned that other than the above one in Barmer, at the least 12 National Highways are being ready throughout the nation in order that they can be utilized as airstrips by Air Force plane in case of emergency.

Sources mentioned the stretches of 12 nationwide highways that will likely be used as airstrips are being recognized and ready.
