Lawmakers within the border state of Tamaulipas voted Wednesday evening to legalize same-sex marriage, changing into the final of Mexico’s 32 states to authorize such unions.
The measure to amend the state’s civil code handed with 23 votes in favor, 12 in opposition to and two votes, “Yes, we can!” supporters of change.
The session passed off as each teams shouted and shouted in opposition to the measure and from the balcony, and the legislators finally moved to a different room to finish their debate and vote.
The President of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Arturo Zaldivar, welcomed the vote.
“The whole country shines with a huge rainbow. Live the dignity and rights of all people. Love is love.”
In 2015, the Supreme Court declared state legal guidelines prohibiting same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional, however it took years for some states to undertake legal guidelines in step with this ruling.
