After experiencing poor rains in June and July, practically three-fourths of Kerala has been receiving heavy rains this month, with many areas on the verge of flooding.

With the state authorities asserting the closure of all colleges on Tuesday, locals concern the redux of 2018, when the state witnessed its worst deluge in practically a century.

The Southwest Monsoon made landfall in Kerala on May 29, three days forward of schedule.

In June, Kerala acquired 308.6 mm of rainfall (52 per cent deficit), adopted by 961.2 mm (26 per cent deficit) in July.

Explained: Why is it raining closely in Kerala?

Kerala is likely one of the highest rainfall receiving states in India and receives an annual rainfall of 2855 mm.
