India delivered two tonnes of medicines to Afghanistan

India on Friday delivered two tonnes of important medicines to Afghanistan, the third tranche of humanitarian assist to the nation because the Taliban took over the federal government in Kabul.

Since mid-August, when Kabul fell into the fingers of the Taliban, India has provided 5 lakh doses of COVID vaccines and 1.6 tonnes of medical assist to Afghanistan via the World Health Organization (WHO).

“As part of our ongoing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, India today supplied the third batch of medical aid containing two tonnes of essential life-saving drugs to Afghanistan. The same was handed over to Indira Gandhi Hospital, Kabul,” the Ministry of External Affairs mentioned in an announcement on Friday.

“India remains committed to continuing its special relationship with the people of Afghanistan and providing them humanitarian assistance,” the MEA mentioned.

“In the coming weeks, we will be supplying more batches of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, including medicines and food grains,” the assertion mentioned.

On 1 January, for the primary time since Kabul fell into the fingers of the Taliban, India despatched 500,000 doses of Covaxin to Afghanistan as a “gift to the people of Afghanistan”. Although this was the primary tranche of vaccines from India since mid-August, it was not the primary tranche because the introduction of vaccination diplomacy.

The first consignment of 5 lakh doses of Covishield was delivered to the individuals of Afghanistan on 7 February, adopted by one other 4.68 lakh doses via the Covax facility on 6 March.
