To overcome the “colonial past”, St George’s Cross has been changed by the brand new flag of the Indian Navy. The golden border across the nationwide emblem takes inspiration from the seal of the Indian emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and exhibits firmness. The octagonal form of the nationwide emblem is designed to signify eight instructions, symbolizing the multi-directional attain and multi-dimensional operational functionality of the Indian Navy.
The new ensign is the successor to the pre-independence flag of the Indian Navy, that includes St George’s Cross on a white background with the tricolor within the canton.
The earlier ensign carried the St George’s Cross and was the successor to the pre-independence flag, which had the Red Cross on a white background with the Union Jack of the United Kingdom on the highest left nook.
