Insects destroyed information in response to inquiries below RTI Act, claims AICF

The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has claimed that information regarding the Right to Information (RTI) Act by a participant had been destroyed by pests at its headquarters right here, prompting a rebuke by the Central Information Commission.

In response to a question below the RTI Act by FIDE Master (FM) Gurpreet Pal Singh searching for data on varied points, the AICF claimed that the information have been destroyed by bugs.

“Initially, he denied the information saying that the matter is pending in the Madras High Court. He then said that the records have been destroyed by the pests and finally he refuted it under Section 8(1)(d), (e), (j) of the Act,” Singh informed PTI.

“The commission did not agree with this and ordered them to provide the information and warned them to mislead the commission and try to change its stand,” he mentioned.

He additional added that “AICF had earlier told the Competition Commission of India (CCI) that its records were destroyed by the Chennai floods in 2015”.

In a listening to on the CIC workplace, the Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) of AICF submitted that the required data pertains to the Chennai workplace and apprised the bench that the related information have been destroyed/broken by bugs.

“When asked by the commission whether it has any evidence for the same, it could not give any concrete answer,” the CIC order mentioned.
Meanwhile, the CIC ordered the AICF to supply the data sought by Singh.

Earlier in 2019, Singh had sought data from AICF relating to year-wise expenditure incurred by AICF in a case filed by him in opposition to the CCI order earlier than the Madras High Court, amongst varied different points.
