BCCI President Sourav Ganguly stated that Virat Kohli’s determination to step down from T20 captaincy after the continued World Cup was his personal determination and there was no strain from the cricket board.

Kohli had not too long ago introduced that he could be out there as a participant solely within the shortest format after the World Cup. Ganguly attributed Kohli’s name to the grueling schedule which impacts each the thoughts and the physique.

“No, I used to be stunned. This determination was in all probability taken by him after the England sequence and it was his determination. We did not speak to Virat or put any strain, we by no means put strain on anybody. I’ve been a participant and I’d by no means do this,” Ganguly informed ‘Aaj Tak’.

After this he defined the explanation behind Kohli’s determination.

“There are extra video games forward and it’s troublesome to captain in all codecs for thus lengthy. I personally have been the captain (for 5 years).

“It looks good from outside that you are leading your country and it is on one level. There is a lot of fame and respect but internally, the player gets jealous mentally and physically and it is not about Ganguly, Dhoni or Virat. Future captains will also feel the pressure. It is a tough job,” he stated.

Talking about Kohli not scoring a single worldwide century within the final two years, Ganguly stated that any nice participant, who performs for a very long time, goes by way of this part.

“It (unhealthy patch) will occur. A participant who has performed for a very long time, Virat has truly performed for 11 years (13 the truth is), not each season would be the identical. Virat is a human being, not a machine. It’s not such as you put him within the machine and the race will run, he is human, no matter will come out, footwork will likely be iffy…

“The graph was up and then came down and it would go up again and you would see the vintage Virat,” he defined.

Ganguly felt that there was nothing flawed in having Mahendra Singh Dhoni because the ‘workforce mentor’ as he has gained three ICC trophies.

“Me and Secretary Jai (Shah) had a lengthy discussion on how to get Dhoni in. Look, he hasn’t left competitive cricket so he can’t be in it for long. It’s just for this tournament. He has won 3 World Cups (ICC trophies), so we thought of adding him and we hope it will only be a good thing. There’s nothing wrong with that. Let’s see,” he stated.

Asked if there could possibly be a battle of opinion with so many individuals within the change room, Ganguly clarified that as head coach Ravi Shastri will proceed to be in cost.

“MS is a mature person. He knows where to stop and where to go, all these things were discussed before he was brought on board,” he stated.

“He had come to Dubai to meet us and discuss the roadmap for the NCA. I think the role of NCA in Indian cricket is huge, it is about the supply line and that is what he wanted to discuss. When we asked him earlier, he was not interested. Let us see if he applies (for the job of head coach),” he stated.
