J&Ok: Militant killed in gunfight in Shopian

A militant was killed in a gunfight that began Wednesday morning in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. As many as 22 militants have been killed throughout encounter with safety forces within the Kashmir Valley this 12 months.

On Wednesday morning, a joint workforce of JK Police, military and paramilitary forces cordoned off Nadigam village in Shopian after getting inputs about presence of militants within the village.

Police officers mentioned that the joint workforce zeroed in on the goal, the hiding militants opened hearth and tried to flee. The joint workforce of forces retaliated triggering a gunfight by which one militant was killed.

Police officers mentioned the identification of the militant is but to be ascertained. Officials additionally mentioned that army operation towards the militants in occurring.

The valley has seen a sudden enhance in gun fights prior to now few months. According to official figures, 22 militants together with eight international militants have been killed in 12 operations this 12 months alone. Police figures reveal that of the 22 killed militants, 13 belong to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
