Organizers of the ATP 250 event stated on Monday that injured Juan Martín del Potro will play his first event since 2019 subsequent week after receiving a wild card for the Argentina Open.
The 2009 US Open champion, who has had 4 operations on his proper knee since final competing on the Queen’s Club in London in 2019, may even play within the Rio Open ATP 500 claycourt event later in February.
“It is going to be very special to be back on tour in Buenos Aires and also to play Rio. I worked hard and made every effort to be with you in the coming weeks,” former world quantity three Del Potro, 33, who’s from Argentina, stated in an announcement.
“Rio de Janeiro holds a special place in my heart and I look forward to being with you and playing the Rio Open for the first time,” stated the 2016 Rio Olympic Games silver medalist.
The Argentina Open will start on February 7 adopted by the Rio Open on February 14.
