Kannur University has determined to not train the works of VD Savarkar and MS Golwalkar, who had been included within the curriculum of postgraduate programs in governance and politics.

The choice was taken following the advice of a two-member committee appointed by the college to evaluate the syllabus.

Quotes from Savarkar’s “Hindutva: Who is a Hindu”, and Golwalkar’s “Bunch of Thoughts” and “We or Our Nationhood Defined”, Deendayal Upadhyay’s “Integral Humanism” and Balraj Madhok’s “Indianisation: What, Why and How” The inclusion of the CPI(M) had sparked controversy with opposition events and left-wing teachers alleging that the ruling CPI(M) was facilitating saffronisation of training within the state.

Though Vice-Chancellor Prof Gopinath Raveendran defended the inclusion of Ark, the federal government took exception to it with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan talking out in opposition to the choice.

On Thursday, Raveendran mentioned that “debates on modern Indian political thought”, which included quotes, could be dropped from the third semester of the course. The paper can be included within the fourth semester after crucial adjustments. A closing choice can be taken after the Academic Council assembly on September 29.

The BJP criticized the college’s choice to freeze the syllabus, alleging that it proved to be a nexus between the CPI(M) and the Congress in Kerala. “It is astonishing that when the Congress demands, the CPI(M) decides to withdraw certain passages about national leaders from the curriculum,” he mentioned. The stress from the jihadis might have prompted Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to withdraw the lesson too,” mentioned Kerala BJP president Ok Surendran.
