Karnataka and Maharashtra on Saturday determined to have higher coordination and communication concerning flood administration and water provide in drought-affected areas of each the states.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and State Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai held a high-level assembly with Maharashtra Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil right here to resolve water-related points between the 2 states.

Addressing reporters after the assembly, Yediyurappa stated each the states have agreed to share real-time information on rainfall and launch of water from reservoirs in each Krishna and Bhima basins for efficient flood administration.

“We discussed various issues regarding flood management in the Krishna and Bhima river basins. The decision was taken to have better coordination and communication between the two states at the ministerial level, secretary level and field level,” the CM stated.

The Chief Minister stated that it was resolved {that a} technical workforce would work in direction of bringing 4 TMC of water from Maharashtra and in return would launch water to the drought-affected areas of the western state.

Both the states additionally agreed to finish the Dudhganga dam venture on the earliest and Maharashtra would additionally fund it.

“Maharashtra will also supply sufficient funds to complete the Dudhganga dam,” Patil instructed a press convention.

Pointing to the water scarcity within the Krishna basin area throughout April and May, Bommai stated that since 2013 Maharashtra has been charging cash to launch water to the state.

However, it has been agreed that Karnataka is not going to pay for the drought-hit Jath taluk of Maharashtra throughout the wet season, however will provide water.
