All the deceased, residents of Cherpulassery in Palakkad district, have been recognized as Muhammad Sahir, Tahir, Nasir, Subair and Hasner.

Although police haven’t formally confirmed the suspicion of gold smuggling, a prime official concerned within the investigation mentioned that the 5 individuals killed within the accident have hyperlinks to a gold smuggling racket working from the Calicut International Airport. The males, touring in a Bolero SUV, have been a part of a convoy of three vehicles carrying 15 individuals from Cherpulassery, all of whom had hyperlinks to smuggling gold.

It was a Bolero SUV that spiraled uncontrolled resulting from over rushing and ultimately collided with a truck, killing all of the passengers on the spot. The official mentioned it was not a direct collision because the SUV is believed to have circled not less than 3 times earlier than colliding with the truck.

Police officers obtained suspicious concerning the accident after they realized that the occupants of the automotive had no purpose to be at Ramanattukara after they have been getting back from the airport at Karipur to Cherpulassery. Following this, the officers with the assistance of CCTV footage traced two different vehicles which used the identical route. The six individuals caught from the vehicles are being questioned on the Ferok police station.

It is suspected that Cherpulassery’s gang was chasing one other smuggler from Koduvalli when the accident occurred.

Earlier within the day, round 2.3 kg of gold value round Rs 1.1 crore was seized by customs officers on the Calicut airport from a 23-year-old passenger who had returned from Dubai. The gold was discovered hidden inside a espresso maker. The police now suspect that the gang concerned within the automotive accident was planning to gather the smuggled gold.
