Police stated on Friday {that a} “private security guard” was arrested from close to Kolkata in reference to the investigation of suspected COVID vaccination camps.
He was arrested by Special Investigation Team (SIT) officers of Kolkata Police’s Detective Department from his home in Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas district on Thursday evening, they stated. The SIT, which is probing unlawful vaccination camps, has questioned a dozen individuals and arrested eight individuals, together with Baidya, on this case thus far.
“Aurobinda Baidya of AP Nagar, Sonarpur was arrested on Friday night. He was Debanjan Deb’s security personnel,” stated an official. According to a senior police officer, Baidya had “full knowledge of Debanjan Deb’s illegal activities” and “active participation” in a few of these. Before arresting Baidya, he was questioned by the police for 4 days.
Incidentally, the newest arrest comes hours after the TMC uncovered a purported {photograph} of Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar with Baidya, a safety guard.
Trinamool Congress chief Sukhendu Shekhar Roy claimed in a press convention on Friday that Dhankhar “may also be involved in a fake vaccination racket”. The TMC chief confirmed images of the safety personnel of the prime accused Debanjan Deb together with the members of the family of the Governor of West Bengal. In the image, Baidya is seen from behind, forcing himself into the body, whereas the governor is seen clicking with a bunch of individuals.
“It is bad if the governor has any relation with the person (Debanjan Deb) who betrayed the people. Jagdeep Dhankhar talks on every issue but why is he silent on fake vaccines? The state government will look into it, as a report has been sought. SIT is investigating. Let the report come,” he stated.
“The matter has taken a political turn. The picture he showed with the governor was during his grandfather’s job in ITC. The governor had attended a program. So there are a lot of pictures of him (Debanjan) with cricketers and there is also a picture of grandfather (Debanjan Deb) with Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee). He has been cooperating with the police since the beginning. Baidya worked with Debanjan only for four months,” stated Debanjan’s brother, who didn’t want to be named.
