Konkan Railway completes electrification of the whole 741-km route; CRS nod obtained

The Konkan Railway Corporation on Tuesday stated it has accomplished electrification on its total 741-kilometre route between Roha in Maharashtra and Thokur in Karnataka.

Electrification will result in financial savings of Rs 150 crore on gasoline, diminished dependence on diesel, in addition to guaranteeing seamless and pollution-free operations, a KR launch stated.

“The Commissioner of Railway Safety’s (CRS) inspection of the final part between Ratnagiri and Thivim was carried out on March 24 and authorization was obtained on March 28. The CRS inspection of the whole Konkan Railway route was efficiently held in six phases ranging from March 2020,” it stated.

It stated the inspiration stone of the electrification undertaking was laid in November 2015 and the full value stood at Rs 1,287 crore, the work having been accomplished regardless of points like tough terrain, excessive monsoons and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Train operations with electrical traction will likely be carried out on the route in a phased method, the KR releases stated.
