Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out on the Congress celebration in his reply to the Motion of Thanks to President Ram Nath Kovind’s tackle within the Rajya Sabha. Stating that he has been given a number of lectures on freedom of expression, Modi stated he wish to remind everybody of how the Congress-government sacked Lata Mangeshkar’s brother from All India Radio for reciting a poem on Veer Savarkar.

“I’m revealing the historical past of those that speak about particular person freedom. Lata Mangeshkar’s household was from Goa. But the nation should know the way the Congress behaved along with her household. Her youthful brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar was sacked from his job at All India Radio. His fault was that he had offered a poem on patriotism by Veer Savarkar,” Modi stated within the House.

“This is your freedom of expression,” he stated. “During Congress government, there were several injustices — not just against Hridaynath ji, the list is quite long,” the PM added.

“Majrooh Sultanpuri and Professor Dharampal were both jailed for criticizing Nehru. Kishore Kumar did not bow to Indira Gandhi during Emergency and he was banned from singing on the radio. We know how freedom of expression is curbed when people don’t agree to one family,” Modi stated.

Lata Mangeshkar, a legendary singer, handed away on February 6 at 92 years of age at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital following post-Covid issues. She was cremated with full state honors within the presence of her household, PM Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, and hundreds of Mumbai residents who thronged Shivaji Park to pay their final respects.
