Lok Sabha Tuesday handed by a voice vote the Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2022.

The Bill, handed by Rajya Sabha on March 30, seeks to amend the Schedule to the ST Order to incorporate sure communities — Deshwari, Ganjhu, Dautalbandi (Dwalbandi), Patbandi, Raut, Maajhia, Khairi (Kheri), Tamaria (Tamadia), and Puran — within the record of STs in Jharkhand.

The Bhogta group is being moved from the record of SCs in Jharkhand to the ST record.

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda launched the Bill in Lok Sabha.

DMK’s DNV Senthilkumar criticized the Bill as a transfer in direction of “election manoeuvring and election strategy”. He mentioned, “Whatever we see is being done for the sake of appeasement, and not in the spirit of upliftment,” he mentioned.

BJP MP from Chatra in Jharkhand rejected the Opposition’s criticism that it’s aimed toward appeasement.
TMC’s Protima Mondal supported the Bill
