The Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Wednesday stated that the federal government has determined to nominate Lt Gen Anil Chauhan (Retd) as the subsequent Chief of Defense Staff (CDS).
The publish of CDS has been mendacity vacant for the reason that loss of life of General Bipin Rawat in a helicopter crash on December 8 final 12 months.
The Defense Ministry stated in a launch that Lt Gen Chouhan will even function Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Government of India from the date of assuming the cost and until additional orders.
In a profession spanning over 40 years, Lt Gen Chouhan held a number of command, employees and assistant appointments and had huge expertise in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast India.
Lt Gen Anil Chauhan was inducted into the 11 Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army in 1981. He is an alumnus of National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
In the rank of Major General, the officer commanded an infantry division within the essential Baramulla sector within the Northern Command. Later as a lieutenant common, he commanded a corps within the North East and later turned the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command from September 2019 till his retirement from service in May 2021.
