Maharashtra: ASI closes Aurangzeb’s tomb for five days

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has shut Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb right here in Maharashtra for 5 days after a mosque committee within the space tried to lock the place, an official mentioned on Thursday.

Two days in the past, MNS spokesperson Gajanan Kale had in a tweet questioned the necessity for the monument’s existence within the state and mentioned it needs to be destroyed.

Later, a mosque committee in Aurangabad’s Khultabad space, the place the tomb is positioned, tried to lock the monument, which is protected by the ASI.

Subsequently, the ASI had deployed extra safety guards on the monument.

When contacted ASI’s Aurangabad circle superintendent Milan Kumar Chauley informed PTI, “Earlier, the mosque committee tried to lock the place, however we opened it. On Wednesday, we took a choice to close the tomb for the subsequent 5 days.”

“We will review the situation and then decide to open it or to keep it closed for another five days,” the official mentioned.

Notably, AIMIM chief Akbaruddin Owaisi’s go to to the tomb earlier this month was criticized by the ruling Shiv Sena within the state in addition to the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

Days after Owaisi’s go to to the tomb, NCP chief Sharad Pawar had questioned if such an act was aimed toward creating a brand new controversy in Maharashtra which is functioning peacefully.
