Pratibha Kondalkar stated she, her daughter and husband had been “lucky” to have survived after the slippery mud stopped close to their home. “But my in-laws came under the rubble as they were trying to leave the village. Their bodies have been recovered,” she stated.
“Some people had started alerting others that the mud was falling down. My husband went out to rescue the other person and asked us to leave the house. It was then that a major part of the hill had crashed,” Kondalkar stated.
26-year-old Swapnil Shirawale narrowly survived after being pulled out of the rubble. But he misplaced each his legs.
